In a country where 70% of its rural households depend on agriculture for their livelihood, one of the world's largest protests took place with over 250 million people standing in solidarity. Farmers were being exploited in India by new laws declared by the Indian government, which negatively impacted the income of household farmers and gave more power to large private corporations. This resulted in a protest that lasted over a year, and cost more than 600 lives. Through rain storms and brisk cold winds the farmers continued to protest so they could maintain their livelihood. To show our support Youth Rising held a fundraiser to create awareness for the protest and raised approximately $1000. The funds were donated to Khalsa Aid who was providing food, shelter, and other accommodations to those at the protest site.
